It doesn’t make you a bad nanny if you decline an insistence for you to “sit on this chair, not that chair”, “you be the dog and I’ll be the owner”, or “eat this first, not that” (yes, I’ve heard them all!). It might actually make you a better one because you will retain the autonomy that we all need for our self-care. And also, modelling this for children empowers them to choose to have appropriate boundaries of their own. (And also, writing this made me laugh so hard because “but also”/“and also” is one of my current 3yo’s favourite phrases. 😂)
